For the benefit of those who are better in English and also people of the other races, this is an English version of the origin of Dragon Boat Festival.

Today, we'll be talking about a festival called the Dragon Boat Festival (Dumpling festival).
Dragon Boat Festival is called Duan Wu Jie in Chinese. Jie means festival.


The festival is celebrated on the 5th of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Throughout the years, there had been many theories of the origin of the festival. The most popular theory is derived from the commemoration a great patriot poet, Qu Yuan. The story about Qu Yuan has been deeply rooted in Chinese culture and this festival, so it is definitely a very important factor for the origin of the festival.



Legend says after people heard Qu Yuan ended his life by flinging himself into the Miluo River and drowned when he heard that the Chu State was defeated by the strong Qin State , they were greatly dismayed. People raced to the spot in their boats to search for his body. Unable to find his body, people threw dumplings, eggs and other food into the river to feed fish, so hoped to salvage his body. Since then, people started to commemorate Qu Yuan through dragon boat races, eating dumplings and other activities, on the anniversary of his death, the 5th of the fifth month.



Rice dumplings are usually made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. Fresh bamboo leaves are the best for the wrapping since the taste and smell of the fresh bamboo leaves is part of dumpling. They have many different types of fillings like dates, meat, yolk of egg and more.

The festival is closely associated with dumpling and dragon boat races. More importantly this is also a national patriot festival through commemorating the great patriot poet, Qu Yuan. People are reminded that the importance of loyalty and commitment to the community in the festival. 今天, 我们会跟大家介绍的节日是 : 端午节

端午节名称

每逢农历五月初五就是端午节,是华人最大的传统节日之一。端午亦称端五,“端”的意思和“初”相同,称“端五”也就如称“初五”;端五的“五”字又与“午”相通,按地支顺序推算,五月正是“午”月。又因午时为“阳辰”,所以端五也叫“端阳”。五月五日,月、日都是五,故称重五,也称重午。此外,端午还有许多别称,如:夏节、浴兰节、女儿节,天中节、地腊、诗人节等等。

端午节来源
关于端午节的来源,时至今日至少有四、五种说法,诸如:纪念屈原说;吴越民族图腾祭说;起于三代夏至节说;恶月恶日驱避说,等等。在民俗文化领域,我国民众把端午节的龙舟竞渡和吃粽子都与屈原联系起来。屈原,是春秋时期楚怀王的大臣。传说屈原投江以后,当地人民伤其死,便驾舟奋力营救,因有竞渡风俗;又说人们常放食品到水中致祭屈原,但多为蛟龙所食,后因屈原的提示才用楝树叶包饭,外缠彩丝,做成后来的粽子样。

端午节有很多不同的习俗, 像是赛龙舟,吃粽子等.

赛龙丹习俗成了游戏
賽龙舟
是端午节的主要习俗。相传起源于古时楚国人因舍不得贤臣屈原投江死去,许多人划船追赶拯救。他们争先恐后,追至洞庭湖时不见踪迹。之后每年五月五日划龙舟以纪念之。借划龙舟驱散江中之鱼,以免鱼吃掉屈原的身体。竞渡之习,盛行于吴、越、楚。 “龙舟竞渡”早在战国时代就有了。在急鼓声中划刻成龙形的独木舟,做竞渡游戏,以娱神与乐人,是祭仪中半宗教性、半娱乐性的节目。后来,赛龙舟除纪念屈原之外,在各地人们还付予了不同的寓意.


粽子形状的来传
端午节吃粽子,这是中国人民的又一传统习俗。粽子,又叫“角黍”、“筒粽”。其由来已久,花样繁多. 据记载,早在春秋时期,用菰叶(茭白叶)包黍米成牛角状,称“角黍”;用竹筒装米密封烤熟,称“筒粽”。东汉末年,以草木灰水浸泡黍米,因水中含碱,用菰叶包黍米成四角形,煮熟,成为广东碱水粽。一直到今天,每年五月初,中国百姓家家都要浸糯米、洗粽叶、包粽子,其花色品种更为繁多。从馅料看,北方多包小枣的北京枣粽;南方则有豆沙、鲜肉、火腿、蛋黄等多种馅料,其中以浙江嘉兴粽子为代表。吃粽子的风俗,千百年来,在中国盛行不衰,而且流传到朝鲜、日本及东南亚诸国.以下是祖国各地的特色
粽子。















苏州特色的枣泥粽子,甜甜红枣的馨香,是选用上等的金丝枣,煮熟后去皮去核捣成泥,再加入成倍的砂糖和适量的油脂制成馅,裹扎时馅里还夹一块肥肉,煮熟后晶亮甜美,油润清香,透着江南古城甜美柔嫩的味道,酥酥油油的枣泥让人难忘。














海南粽子,海南地处热带,首先这个包粽子的粽叶就和北方的粽子不尽相同,一般选用芭蕉叶包成方锥形,一个粽子的重量约为半公斤左右。代表性的特色馅料有红烧鸡翅、腊肉等等。















台湾的烧肉粽子,台式粽子有浓郁的闽南风味,品种丰富,其中以烧肉粽子最为流行,台湾烧肉粽子的“内容”丰富,由猪肉、干贝、芋头、蛤干、鸭蛋等组成,肉类、海鲜类、蔬菜都被包含其中,形成了终年可见的传统小吃。













四川的辣粽,通常先把糯米、红豆浸泡5至6小时,将水倒出,放入椒粉、川盐、味精和少许腊肉,用粽子叶包成约60克一个的四角粽。吃起来香辣适口,风味独特。因制作工艺复杂,其口味当然特!
